Ranch Critters Equine Rescue was founded in 2010, with the goal to give unwanted, abused and neglected horses a place to heal, feel safe, and be loved before placing them with their new family. Ranch Critters offers shelter, medical care, rehabilitation and behavioral training to each horse before carefully coordinating an adoption between horse and prospective owner.
Some of the services we offer here at the ranch include our Open Corral, which is held each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please remember to “call before you haul.” During these hours, visitors may be invited to help with ranch chores and projects, learning basic horse care, watch and/or participate in ground work (“riding” your horse from the ground) training with current horses and learn more about horses and their incredible abilities!
In addition, perspective adopters may opt to sponsor a horse here at the Ranch who is still in training. During the sponsorship, the sponsor builds a one on one relationship with his/her horse through grooming, groundwork and other activities. This time together allows us to evaluate and determine that both the horse and human are compatible for a lifetime relationship together.
Do these efforts pay-off? Meet Gabe, an off the track Thoroughbred seized by authorities.
|Upon Seizure||At his new home|
|Our featured horse is Faith, a 12 year old Tennessee Walker who came to us from a seizure by the Navasota Sheriff Department. Faith was initially given a Henneke body score of 1 (4-6 is an average score), which indicated she was extremely emaciated, and near death. Over the course of several weeks, Faith was given 6-8 small meals consisting of alfalfa, rice bran and beet pulp in addition to unlimited hay. Now, approximately 4 months later, we are pleased to announce that Faith was given a clean bill of health by our Ranch Critter Vet. She has begun evaluation training is and is up for adoption at the Ranch.|
If you are interested in meeting Faith and the rest of the Ranch Critters, please come visit us during our Open Corrals each Saturday.
